Yes! I think it might be Jorinda and Joringel. I might have remembered it wrong though on account of my poor memory. Thanks cutelittlekitty!
I really like the 'old' fairy tales. The one's that were meant for adults. Like in the original version of Snow White the stepmother had to dance in red-hot metal shoes at Snow White's wedding and more...

you're very welcome spacelion. I'm glad i could be of help
i like the old fairytales too. my favorite was always the twelve dancing princesses and i pray that disney never gets a hold of that one. i'm sure they'd completely ruin it.

yah i think the best fairy tales come out of the Book "Grimms Fairy Tales" they just seem more real. Like people didnt just get in trouble and have happy endings. No, people were killed or totured and the princess or whoever had a decent ending. all this talk of fairy tales is making me read all the oldies.
i tried to read the princess and goblin one......but well its boring so i got over it lol. hmmm i finished reading "The Picture of Dorian Gray" its not really a fairy tale but i always thought it was. that was a good book. i definetly didnt understand it as a kid, but rereading has made me see all the philosofic(sp?) points.....u should read it....its good!

It's not really a fairy tale, but I like The Princess Bride. It's good and funny, even if everyone got annoyed of me going around saying 'Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father; prepare to die.'

Ohh! I started reading "The Picture of Dorian Grey" it hints shonen-ai between the characters I think (although with my corrupt mind I see yaoi/shonen-ai everywhere! LOL)
And Disney is evil!

yah "the picture dorian gray" is a pretty good book. and yah there are loads of hints of shonen ai, which is strange because of the time peoriod it was written in.
i dont want to ruin it so i wont say anything bout it

I just started reading contemporary adult fairytales. *shuders* Some people are a little bit disturbing ^^;;
Well anyways the anthology I was reading was called "Black Heart, Ivory Bones by: Ellen Datlow, and Terri Windling.
The story that standed out was Chanterelle by: Brain Stableford
(After marrying, Alator and Catriona move to the city, leaving their country upbringing behind. But their childhood stays with them, in the form of the tales they remember and tell to their children, Handsel and Chanterelle. When a plague forces a return to the countryside, Handsel and Chenterelle find themselves caught up in the tales their parents used to tell...) and it so reminded me of Kaori Yuki's stories! I suggest you read it.
Some other stories in there are "The Trail of Hanzel and Gretel," by ? (what happened after they cooked the witch and took her jewels?) and My Life as a Bird by: Charles de Lint. (A woman,suddenly finds herself the subject of a debt of gratitude from a dwarf whom she trips over one night.)
But be warned some stories in the anthology are..er..graphic.
Another good anthology is Curses Inc. by Vivian Vande Velde.
Well I'm off! Bye *runs off*
